The Fast Lane Truck (also known as TFLtruck) has crowned the 2017 Ram 3500 as their Gold Hitch winner for the heavy-duty segment. The 6.7-liter Cummins-powered Ram 3500 Heavy-Duty managed to outclass every other competitor present, thanks to unrivalled pulling power, braking performance, fuel economy, handling and even comfort. It’s not the first time a 2017 Ram 3500 wins an award, and we have a feeling it won’t be the last either.
To determine the winner, TFLtruck editors used the notorious Eisenhower Pass “Ike Gauntlet” as their testing ground. Located in Denver, CO, the grueling climb is difficult at the best of the times, with 11,000 feet elevations, so it’s even more challenging when you throw in a loaded gooseneck trailer as well. After the end of the entire haul however, a clear winner emerged. The Ram 3500 Heavy Duty managed to tow a 21,600-pound trailer up the Ike Gauntlet. Thanks to excellent braking power, downhill performance, unrivaled power and leading fuel mileage, it still remains the heavy-duty benchmark and the truck of choice if you’re after a truck of its size and performance.
Ever since its launch back in 2009, Ram Trucks has been constantly improving and innovating in the truck sector. The Ram 1500 quickly became one of the best everyday pickups, as well as the undisputed workhorse champion. The Ram 3500 Heavy Duty is aimed at a slightly different audience, with the Ram ProMaster commercial van taking care of everyday deliveries and most small businesses’ requirements and needs.
