Powering the RAM 3500HD
All versions of the 2015 Ram 3500 are available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. A 5.7-liter V8 engine with 383 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque is standard, and it’s matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 3500HD’s Traction Control feature supports the driver’s ability to maintain control over the handling of the vehicle when on difficult roads. The 3500HD’s handling is also increased due to an Electronic Stability system. The Ram 3500 continues to utilize the rear Hotchkiss leaf spring system on the Ram 3500, but now offers a supplemental air suspension system on single rear wheel (SRW) and dual rear-wheel (DRW) applications. By adding supplemental air bags to the rear suspension, Ram engineers were able to soften the leaf springs, allowing for more unladed suspension movement. Whether you’re really using all that might or just boasting, it’s hard not to be impressed with these figures: 30,000 and 850. The first represents the maximum towing capacity of Ram 3500 models, while the latter designates the torque produced from the optional 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine.
The 2015 3500HD’s Design
The 2015 Ram 3500 heavy-duty pickup is available in three cab styles. The regular cab comes in Tradesman and SLT trims; the Crew Cab in Tradesman, SLT, Laramie and Laramie Longhorn; and the Mega Cab in SLT, Laramie and Laramie Longhorn only. A 3.5-inch vehicle information center screen is a standard feature. A thin-film transistor (TFT), 7-inch multiview display is available on SLT, and higher trim level. The 7-inch screen features fully customizable function and configurability giving the owner a variety of systems to monitor from transmission temperature to navigation. Standard safety equipment for the 2015 Ram 3500 includes antilock disc brakes, front and side curtain airbags, stability and traction control and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Optional items include adjustable pedals, rear parking sensors and two rear cameras: a standard rearview camera and a cargo-area camera aimed at the bed of the truck.
